UE/R Min. for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation tour in upper East to inspect progress on the Sustainable Land and Water Management (SLWM) project


The Min. for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Frimpong Boateng paid a courtesy call on the Regional minister Early this morning at the Residency with his team as part of their 3- day visit to the Upper East Region.

The tour is to inspect progress on the Sustainable Land and Water Management (SLWM) project. The project which started in 2011 is expected to end in 2020 and is supported by the Global Environment Fund (GEF) and is being implemented in the Upper East, Upper West and Northern Regions.

In the Upper East Region, it is being implemented in 4 Districts: Kassena-Nankana West, Bawku West, Bulsa South and Talensi.
In all, 247 communities are benefiting from the project in the form of water management practices such as soil and stone bonding, Afro-forestry, Riparian establishments, composting, inter-cropping, rangeland improvement and crop rotation.

The project covers 10,698.7 hectares in the 3 Regions with Upper East having 5,698.7 hectares, representing 53.3%
