When we talk about poor educational infrastructure in rural communities, mostly the focus is on school under trees. But pupils of Akateng Manya D/A Primary School in Upper Mannya District do not learn under trees. However, it will be fair to say they study under conditions worse than that. They learn under a structure built of trees stamps roofed with nimtree stumps. But even more disturbing is the absence of desks for the children. The pupils sit on join board to learn. Some bring in chairs from home which they sit on in class. Education in this community is tough, speaking to the pupils said: “If the rain rains, we close because when it raining, the rain beat us”.
