FREE EDUCATION OR FREE SHS (PART FIVE)

NPP government claimed to be doing social interventions,but,
social interventions can’t be implemented without infrastructure,which they don’t do atall.
Forinstance,NPP are praising themselves with NHIS without building a single hospital in Ghana.

In addition, NHIS can’t operate without medical doctors,but,they never built a single university and a single teaching hospital to train medical students.

 Also,Kuffour chose to do free education at the basic level and went further to pay capitation grant and introduced school feeding at a time there were over 2,000 schools under trees, which were almost eliminated by the Mills/Mahama administration.

Thesame Mills/Mahama administration minister of education by then,Mrs Betty-Mould Iddrisu, revealed in 2011 that Ghana had about 100,000 teacher deficit.This was just the tip of the iceberg of Ghana’s education problems. Some of them include:

1.lack of qualified teachers especially, at the basic level. Apatt from the 100,000 teacher deficit in Ghana,50% of basic schools teachers are untrained. It’s now that they’re doing distance courses, likened to a person working as a medical doctor before taking up a course in medicine.

2.Poor supervision.Most teachers don’t do the work as required of them due to poor supervision.No teacher in public school has ever completed his/her syllabus in an academic year,never.It’s never happened.

3.Teacher attrition is another big problem.A survey summoned by GNAT and TEWU reported that 10,000 teachers leave the service yearly,whiles only 9,000 enter the service from all colleges-of- education in the country.

The already few teachers are leaving due to poor remuneration.

4.Over the years,half of BECE and WASSSCE candidates (averagely 200,000 and 150,000 respectively) fail,due to lack of teachers,teaching aids,logistics(text
books, computors etc) infrastructure (teachers’ bungalows, laboratories etc)etc,
5.We’ve about 1million children out of school in this country.

What’s the government doing about it?

6.This and other problems underlines the need of closed to 1,000 basic schools in Ghana, cos,there are several villages and cottages that don’t have primary schools. Their children trek to neighbouring communities to attend school.

Also,every town or city in this country needs more schools, especially, basic schools. Go to some suburbs of Accra, Kumasi etc and see for yourself.

WHEN WE WANT TO FACE REALITIES IN THIS COUNTRY, IT WILL BE CLEAR THAT THE NPP PARTY IS A JOKE.THEY’RE JUST MASSAGING OUR SORE INSTEAD OF HEATING IT WITH HOT WATER AND PUT ANTIBIOTICS IN IT,SO THAT IT WILL PAIN US BUT,WILL BE HEALED ONCE AND FOR ALL.

That means,we need about 5,000 more JHSs and out of the 14,405 primary schools,about 2,000 of them don’t have KGs.
Unless of course,you don’t know the essence of education, that’s when all these figures don’t bother you atall.

That’s why I started with “education-part one,two, up to part four”, with this as the part five.

For tertiary alone,before Mills/Mahama brought 3 universities and other NTCs,we’d only 50 tertiary institutions against 642 SHS with about 450,000 yearly graduates against about 100,000 spaces in all those tertiary institutions combined.

I remember in 2004,about 6,000 students applied for admission into Legon,but only 2,000 were given admission.

During those years,our universities were over flooded, forcing lectures to lecture with microphones(PA systems) whiles some students peeped through windows to take part in lectures.

That’s was the time Kuffour and his badge of thieves were looting this country under the cover of social interventions.They finally burnt all documents when they were leaving office,to escape accountability.

Since Ghana is a developing country, we need more infrastructure than anything else.Reliving parents burden of their children’s school fees and even going further to feed their children in schools, will definitely, lead to laziness on the part of parents.

Former prez Kuffour’s free maternal care also contributed to the population explosion in this country. Our population is outgrowing our resources and many people are worried, hence,binding parents to their children’s responsibilities alone,is a way of checking the population growth.

But some parents are so poor that they can’t even pay the fees of even the few children the have,that’s why JDM suggested that poor people’s children should not pay fees,just like what the current finance minister, Kenn Offori Atta is advocating.
