A/R Call to select helpful courses at university

Mr Isaac Yah Deh, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Studies and also a Senior Lecturer Department of the Marketing Sunyani Technical University, has entreated the students of Serwaa Kesse Girls’ Senior High in the Tano Municipality in the Ahafo region to select courses at university that will help them to get into professions that they will work with passion and not want to satisfy their stomach. He said students normally complete from the university with a course that is not their field and it is not helping.

Deh made this passionate call when he addressed students of the school as part of their SRC week celebration. How Ghana is moving in mass production is not as expected in terms of the development of the nation in all aspects are not encouraging due to people working for the development area for the nation at the various sectors of the economy are there for sake of money and do not love the work. He advised the students to take their studies very serious because education is key to sustainability and development.

From high school to university

He said the senior high school is where to create a good beginning that will help you to get access to a good education by forwarding to the university. Mr Deh added that one’s career starts right away from the senior high level that shows that they need to be serious with what they are doing in school. He finally wished all final year students the best of luck as they prepare to write final exams.

Choosing for growth industries

Choosing the right studies for the future requires students to look at economic development trends and opportunities. Ghana’s economy has been growing fast over the last decade, although the growth has slowed down the last few years. According to the World Bank, the share of employment in agriculture decreased from 62% in 1991 to 42% in 2015. The service industry rose from 28 to 43%. Service replaced agriculture as the largest sector of the economy. Growth industries are energy, tourism and telecommunications. With Ghana: Vision 2020, Ghana intends to achieve its goals of accelerated economic growth and improved quality of life for all by reducing poverty through private investment, rapid industrialization, and poverty-alleviation efforts. So a good idea to take a look at these facts and figures before choosing your studies.
